Sr Adults Trip – Day in Castroville
Date:  Thursday, September 24, 2026
Time:  8:15a to 4p (Bus will depart promptly at 8:30a from the South Campus parking lot.)
Cost:  $40 (not including bakery purchases) DAY TRIP FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE
Gathering Location:  South Campus Parking Lot

We will spend the day exploring Castroville, the “Little Alsace of Texas.”  We are going to be bold and begin the trip with dessert first, by making our first stop Haby’s Alsatian Bakery.  "Haby's" has been baking some of Medina County’s best pies, cakes, and other sweet treats for over 50 years.  Anyone who has heard about them probably knows you must be there early, before all the best goodies are gone.

Our step-on guide will join us and take us on a guided tour, starting at the Steinbach House, which was originally built in France in the 1600s and relocated to Castroville in 1988.  We will continue learning more about the history and architecture by visiting some of the 96 structures that are on the National Historic Register, including the Biry House (Castro Colonies Living History Center).  We will also stop at the St. Louis Catholic Church with an optional walk to a second church location just a bit down the road.

Lunch will be at Julianna’s Restaurant, a pleasant restaurant located on the golf course.  There will be a number of delicious options for you to pick from for lunch.

Our last stop before heading back into San Antonio will be the Landmark Inn, a State Historic Site.  There are a number of delightful historic finds here, for those who choose to spend a short amount of time walking the property.

Please register for this trip on the website universitysatx.org/events.  If you have any questions, please contact Janice Barsun at 210-685-9419.  Deadline for registering is Sunday, September 20.
